Contes et légendes du Queeriqoo (Voice Actress, Storyteller)

  • ⛅︎ Contes et légendes du Queeriqoo (transl. Tales and Legends from Queeriqoo) are bedtime stories (in French for now) for people who are so woke they can’t sleep. It is an audio series of philosophical tales that come to us from a space-time where the norm is queer and the Earth is called Queeriqoo. In Queeriqoo, there are not states, but lands called Zaqueer, Sapphique du Sud or Gaypublique Transafricaine. An escape commissioned by writer Jo Güstin, each tale takes us to a world where you can go when this one pisses you off. Please note: In the Queeriqoo languages, the masculine gender doesn't prevail over anything.

    As the narrator and portraying most of the characters, I find it advantageous to have multiple accents and cultural backgrounds (isn’t that rich, racist planet?). This diversity allows for versatility and authenticity in bringing the various characters to life.

  • ⛅︎ Je suis la narratrice et la plupart des personnages de la série audio Contes et légendes du Queeriqoo. Le Queeriqoo est vraiment le monde où, pour une fois, mon multiculturalisme et ma pluralité d’accents me servent à quelque chose.

    Le Queeriqoo est un monde où me casser quand celui-ci me les brise. Je l’ai créé et j’écris chacun des contes toute seule. Inspirée par Nick Kroll, je veux pouvoir créer et jouer au moins 30 identités vocales !

Escape Parties au Queeriqoo (Conteuse)

  • Contes et légendes du Queeriqoo (transl. Tales and Legends from Queeriqoo) are bedtime stories (in French for now) for people who are so woke they can’t sleep. It is an audio series of philosophical tales that come to us from a space-time where the norm is queer and the Earth is called Queeriqoo. In Queeriqoo, there are not states, but lands called Zaqueer, Sapphique du Sud or Gaypublique Transafricaine. An escape commissioned by writer Jo Güstin, each tale takes us to a world where you can go when this one pisses you off.

    An Escape Party is a live reading-performance by Jo Güstin, featuring a tale from Queeriqoo. The duration of the performance is typically 30-40 minutes. The party can be hosted either online as an e-scape party or in person. Its purpose is to provide an opportunity to escape from a world that is systemically oppressive. Online Escape Parties are scheduled on Sundays to coincide with the release of a new episode. These parties follow the concept of "e-jama parties" from Contes et légendes du Queeristan.

    One notable element of the Escape Party is the "monster of colours" costume, which is designed and worn by Jo Güstin during the performance.

Moment d'évasion, kif interplanétaire, elles ont lieu en ligne le dimanche, à l'occasion de la sortie d'un nouvel épisode. Les Escape Parties succèdent aux "e-jama parties" des Contes et légendes du Queeristan. "Adama et Yves", le premier conte de la saison 3, a été dévoilé en avant-première lors d'une Escape Party au Palais de la Porte Dorée à Paris le 10 mai 2023 dans le cadre du Festival Dépression organisé par Gaëlle Choisne.

    Le "monstre de couleurs" est le costume conçu et porté par Jo Güstin au cours d'une Escape Party.

    You know those actors who say that they started with comedy, but they’re looking for more serious roles? Yeah, I’m not one of them. I want to be in comedy from the cradle to the grave. Comedy is dead serious and when, in my short film Don’t Text Your Ex, I tell this horrifying story about someone who dies (the whole film is about grief), I know I am being funny.

  • Je n’suis pas venue ici pour souffrir, OK ? is a 75-minute intersectional comedy show in French that addresses the topics of racism, sexism, and homophobia, all while pretending not to explicitly discuss them. I have two versions of this show: one tailored for European audiences, focusing on my experiences in France, and another for Canadian audiences, highlighting my current life in Canada.

    “Je n’suis pas venue ici pour souffrir, OK ?”, nous rappelle Jo Güstin depuis 2018, dans son premier spectacle de stand-up. En 75 minutes, seule en scène avec son micro et un vaporisateur rempli de larmes, l’humoriste et écrivaine panafricaine dénonce avec son tragicomique ordinaire, ses phrases pimentées et ses punchlines d’une subtilité efficace, le racisme, le sexisme et les LGBTphobies systémiques, à travers des anecdotes de sa vie au Canada.

  • I mostly perform standup comedy in French. As for performing English, I began my journey in Brooklyn, NY, bombing every night at the Experimental Comedy Gallery. I then took my comedy to Paris, France, where I performed at the New York Comedy Night. Since 2019, I have been testing jokes at open mics in Toronto, ON, Canada:

Tallboyz, as Teacher Tamsin (Actress)

  • Tallboyz is one of my favorite TV shows in the world. Auditioning for a role was one of the most fun experiences in my life (also my very first auditions ever) and to my sheer delight, I ended up landing the part of Teacher Tamsin! Just when I thought I knew happiness, BAM, it got even better!

  • Pour la toute première audition de ma vie, j’ai décroché un petit rôle dans Tallboyz, l’une de mes séries préférées ! (La chance des débutantes) J’étais la prof d’art Tamsin dans l’épisode 3x02 “I Don’t Trust the Cloud”. Je ne me suis jamais autant amusée que pendant cette audition et sur le plateau de tournage, j’étais sur un nuage (et comme un coq en pâte !). Tu crois que tu sais déjà ce que c’est qu’être heureuse quand BAM, la vie te montre que tu n’as encore rien vu !

    So, a "wokeshop" is this creative workshop by Jo Güstin that brings an intersectional feminist and decolonial approach to any artistic discipline: writing, drawing, theater, humor—you name it. Each wokeshop is an invitation to deconstruct your creative process, becoming aware of the political patterns and other oppressive mechanisms underlying our artistic expressions. The term "woke" is embraced, with a touch of humor, as a catch-all for the struggle for intersectional social justice.

    And what's an intersectional stand-up comedy wokeshop?

    This 3-hour wokeshop is for anyone aged 15 to 95. We'll explore the comedic potential of vulnerability, find politics in the most mundane realities, and, after learning the anatomy of a stand-up joke, we'll hit the stage for an impromptu open mic at the Intersectionality Comedy Club!

    How does it work in a corporate setting?

    It's the perfect team-building activity to raise awareness about social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion through humor. After three hours of making each other laugh with personal anecdotes, participants come out of the workshop much closer. This activity was developed from the perspective of an introverted person. Limited to 12 participants per workshop.

  • Qu’est-ce qu’un “wokeshop” créatif ?

    Il s’agit d’un atelier créatif créé et animé par Jo Güstin pour apporter une approche féministe intersectionnelle et décoloniale à toute discipline artistique : l’écriture, le dessin, le théâtre, l’humour... Chaque wokeshop est une invitation à déconstruire son processus de création, en prenant conscience des schémas politiques et autres mécanismes d’oppression qui sous-tendent nos expressions artistiques. Le terme “woke” est assumé, non sans humour, comme un fourre-tout de la lutte pour une justice sociale intersectionnelle.

    Qu’est-ce qu’un wokeshop de standup intersectionnel ?

    D’une durée de 3h, ce wokeshop s’adresse à un public de 15 à 95 ans. Nous explorerons le potentiel comique de la vulnérabilité, nous amuserons à faire des choses les plus banales des réalités politiques, et après avoir apris l’anatomie d’une blague de standup, nous monterons sur scène dans le cadre d’une scène ouverte improvisée, l’Intersectionality Comedy Club !

    Et en entreprise, ça donne quoi ?

    Une activité de team-building parfaite pour sensibiliser les salariéxs aux questions de justice sociale, de diversité, d’équité et d’inclusion à travers l’humour. Après trois heures à se faisant rire les unxs les autres avec leurs anecdotes personnelles, les participantxs ressortent de l’atelier beaucoup plus proches. Cette activité a été développée du point de vue d’une personne introvertie. 12 personnes maximum par atelier.

  • Ateliers créatifs gratuits réalisés en partenariats avec des associations de quartier, pour montrer aux filles 7 à 17 ans l’impact des oppressions systémiques sur leurs imaginaires et leur perception de soi.

  • La non-mixité politique est un espace réservé à un groupe partageant une même oppression (ex. : racisé·es, LGBTQ+, femmes) afin de favoriser la liberté d'expression et l'entraide, sans crainte du regard dominant. Cela permet aux participant·es de partager leurs expériences en toute sécurité et d’élaborer des stratégies d’émancipation.

    Les wokeshops Ah Sissi animés en France ont été donnés à des filles de 7 à 17 ans racisées dans des quartiers défavorisés, ce qui a permis un sentiment de sécurité et une meilleure liberté de la parole.
